The Macok is fast gaining recognition as not just a great place to eat in Eger, but also as a restaurant that can compete with the best Hungary has to offer.

The menu includes international and Hungarian dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients, although varied, the dishes are not pretentious and surprisingly good value.

The waiting staff are generally very courteous and, more importantly, can recommend wines to go with your meal as they seem to be well-informed about the region's wines

The terrace is very pleasant on summer evenings

What does Ilkka say?

Ieger.com has its own dedicated restaurant reviewer committed to bringing its readers the latest on Eger's eateries.

Ilkka Januteinen, originally from Finland, regularly forgoes family life in pursuit of bringing the latest culinary news to you from around Eger.

Food and drink, not necessarily in that order, are his life and we, and in particular me, have him to thank for the restaurant, bars and club reviews throughout this site.

"More contemporary approach to Hungarian cuisine than other Eger restaurants. Great selection of some of the best wines in the region. Popular among young adults, so the atmosphere is always youthful and fresh. This is one of the newer restaurants in town and very well known outside Eger as well. Previously known as Imola Restaurant, which was chosen among the top 12 restaurants in Hungary. Still lives up to it’s reputation, even after it changed to a bistro. Right by the castle entrance with a nice terrace and courtyard with a functioning watermill, which creates a great atmosphere on those hot Hungarian summer nights. Foods are prepared carefully with first class ingredients and a lot of imagination. Staff is relaxed, fluent in English and keeps your wine glass full the whole evening."

In summary, in its short history the Macok Bistro has won fans from all corners of the restaurant industry and, more importantly, the people of Eger and tourists are in full agreement. Few have a bad word to say about the place and that includes us, so why not pay the Macok a visit.
