For those wanting to visit a cellar, the experience offered by Sike Tamás' Winery is perhaps the best. If, however, you want to sample some wines in more comfortable surroundings closer to the town centre, then you should really try Brancs Wine Garden
The beauty of the Sike Tamás Winery is that not only can you sample his fantastic wines in a traditional cellar cut into a hillside in the Valley of the Beautiful Woman, but you can also learn all about the wines you are drinking, the process by which they arrived in your glass and the story of this fine winery
Both groups and individuals are welcome at the cellar, which has capacity for 120 persons and a terrace which has seating for a further 80.
If you wish to visit the cellar then feel free to pop in; however, if you are a larger group then it is essential to call in advance and check for availability. There is also hot and cold food available but once again please be sure to contact the cellar in advance if you are a large party.
The contact details are as follows:
As always, if you need any assistance in booking or arranging winetasting in Eger, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
The wines are stored in altogether three cellars, capable of holding 70000 litres. The annual output of the winery is around 100000 bottles.
The wine is made from many different varieties of grape which are grown on the Sike's 24 hectares of land dotted around the Eger wine-growing region. Some of the grape varieties under cultivation are Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Alibernet, Kadarka and Olaszrizling
There is a shop on site from where you can buy the wines you have sampled (and a whole lot more)
Szépasszony Völgy (Valley of the Beautiful Woman) is not the easiest place to get to without a car, as it is quite a walk (and an uneventful one at that) from the town centre - roughly 20 minutes.
There is a 'road train' that leaves from outside the College Building in Egeségház utca (see map below) and takes you to the valley (about 15 minutes) for 800huf return - as of 2015.
It leaves on the hour, every hour between 10.00 and 17.00.
