Senator Ház Restaurant

Eat great food and watch the world go by

Sitting in the centre of a busy thoroughfare (Kis Dobó Tér), the Senator Ház Restaurant is a great place to get a bite to eat.

Whether you want to recharge your batteries after a round of sightseeing, treat yourself to a four course meal with a fine wine in pleasant surroundings or merely wish to lazily sip a coffee or glass of wine while passing judgement on those who walk by, then we cannot recommend this place enough.

In the summer there is nothing better than having a good meal while watching the world go by

The Senator Ház restaurant is attached to the popular hotel of the same name, but really should be a separate entity with a different name as it tends to be overshadowed by the hotel.

It certainly doesn't deserve to play second fiddle as the food really is very good. Traditional Hungarian cuisine with a unique twist is how I've heard it described and this is a fair assessment.

Rose duck breast - the presentation is nearly as good as the food

The menu is changed regularly yet it invariably includes the perennial favourites such as Goulsah soup, roasted goose liver, fruit soup and stuffed cabbage, all prepared with added Senator Ház pizazz.

There is also a great selection of 'international dishes' which are well worth trying if Hungarian cuisine is not to your liking.

On colder days, patrons can move inside to the cosy dining room

What does Ilkka say?

Ieger.com has its own dedicated restaurant reviewer committed to bringing its readers the latest on Eger's eateries.

Ilkka Januteinen, originally from Finland, regularly forgoes family life in pursuit of bringing us the freshest culinary news from around Eger.

Food and drink, not necessarily in that order, are his life and we have him to thank for the restaurant, bars and club reviews throughout this site.

"Right in the town center, below the castle, on the picturesque Small Dobó square. Senator-ház offers classic Hungarian cuisine in a lively atmosphere with street musicians often performing old “schlager” music in front of the restaurant. The staff are courteous, most speak English, and are particularly knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to selecting Eger wines to accompany particular dishes"
