Senator Haz or Senator House is what holiday dreams are made of. Nestled in a small square right below the castle and slap bang in the middle of Eger's Baroque town centre it exudes charm from every limestone block.
It is without doubt, the most convenient of Eger's hotels, all the sights, shops and sounds (see below) of Eger are right on its doorstep.
Like something out of a picture postcard
The great location comes at a price, however; there are only 11 rooms in the main building which means that during the high season (May-September) it can be next to impossible to get a room at short notice, so be sure to book in advance.
The rooms are not of the 5 star, all the bells and whistles variety but then you wouldn't expect as much from a historic building.
Having said that each room comes with a hairdryer, cable television, telephone, separate shower/bath and bathrobes
Double room in Senator Haz
It is important to be aware that there are two parts to this hotel: the 11 room capacity, 18th century building as outlined above, and a newer part built in 2004 which is called the Patria Pension (Patria Guest House).
Only a stone's throw from the Senatir Haz proper, the Patria has 2 apartments and 3 double rooms. It is very comfortable and has a peaceful and shady courtyard, ideal for relaxing after a day's sightseeing. Free parking is also available in the underground car park.
When booking make sure you stress which part of the hotel it is that you want to stay in as you might get a nasty surprise on arrival.

Hotel Senator Haz also has a wonderful restaurant. The choice is wide and varied.
Breakfast can be hot or cold, savoury or sweet, light or heavy. The evening meals on offer are a mix of Hungarian and international cuisine, and the wine choice varied and excellent, as you would expect from a town at the centre of a thriving wine region.
If you don't want a full meal, then there is always the option of ordering homemade cakes and pastries, tea, coffee and ice cream.
The atmospheric restaurant
