Marján Patisserie

Cakes, cakes and more cakes

There is a great selection of cakes in this patisserie and that's not all, delicious ice cream and quality coffee make this one of the best pastry shops in Eger.

The Hungarian word for a patisserie is 'cukrászda', a word that you will see above lots of small shops during your stay in Hungary; Hungarians appreciate good cake shops and Marján is no exception.

The choice can be overwhelming

One of the nice things with Marján is that there is always something new to try; the chefs are constantly coming up with new creations which you can't find anywhere else - their cakes often win prizes in national confectionery competitions.

This does not, however, mean that the traditional Hungarian classic desserts are ignored, far from it: Somloi Galuska, Dobos Torta, Mézes Gerbeaud and a host of other classics are all available.

If cakes are not your thing, then you can always try the mouth-watering homemade ice cream or perhaps a pogácsa (cheese scone).

What does Ilkka say?

Ieger.com has its own dedicated restaurant reviewer committed to bringing its readers the latest on Eger's eateries.

Ilkka Januteinen, originally from Finland, regularly forgoes family life in pursuit of bringing us the freshest culinary news from around Eger.

Food and drink, not necessarily in that order, are his life and we have him to thank for the restaurant, bars and club reviews throughout this site.

"Now this confectionery is all about cakes, and Hungarians just love them. Visit Marján Cukrászda and you’ll understand why. They offer a huge selection of all kinds of cakes and other sweet bakery products. The variety of cakes is so wide here that it just makes me want to cry, so make sure to order two or three of them, just to know what Hungarian cakes are about!"
