Hotel Estella is housed in one of the buildings (imaginatively called 'B' building) of Eszterházy Károly Föiskola (College), the third level institution serving Eger.
The reason it is where it is, is that the Hotel Estella is a training hotel for students studying tourism and hospitality at the college.
This means that the service you get may seem somewhat fawning as the staff are trying a bit too hard, however, if you have ever experienced 'normal' Hungarian customer service then I am sure you will enjoy the pleasant change.
Hotel Estella is on the upper floors of a college building
The hotel is housed in a uniquely ugly building, fortunately the hotel interior is somewhat more attractive.
There are fifteen rooms in the Hotel Estella all on the upper floors of the building. Six are standard double rooms, seven standard twin rooms, one suite and one room for disabled guests.
All of the rooms have LCD televisions, refrigerators, private bathrooms and Wifi access.Should you need a hair-dryer during your stay then all you need to do is ask at reception.
Although simply furnished, the rooms are comfortable and spacious.
The suite at the Hotel Estella
With all the sights and shops of Eger within walking distance, the Hotel Estella could not be in a better location. The Castle, the thermal baths and the main shopping area are all within a ten minute walk of your room.
Secure, free car parking is available should you need it.
The buffet restaurant
There is a restaurant located on the sixth floor which serves a buffet breakfast, you also have the option of having breakfast brought to your room.
Drinks are available throughout the day, just ask at reception and they will help you out.
As a guest at Hotel Estella, you are entitled to a special discount on the entrance fee to the thermal baths, the swimming pool and the fitness room, do enquire at reception for more details.
Do keep in mind that this is a working educational establishment. If you visit between September and December or between February and June, you will have to wade through groups of students to get up to the hotel on the upper floors of the building.
Students, however, do not stay in this building so after classes end in the evening all is quiet.
What you find below are two columns: one outlining the positive in Hotel Estella and the other the negative as expressed by their guests. This information is collated from hotel review websites such as tripadvisor.com, booking.com and agoda.com.
Great value for money.
Good view of the town.
Language (English) issues with staff
Hotel Estella gets a score of 85% on tripadvisor.com (calculated from 7 guest reviews) and on booking.com a score of 8.3/10 (calculated from 125 reviews).
From my reading of the reviews, most guests are delighted with the Hotel Estella. It can't be beaten on value for money and any quibbles are for things that are only to be expected in a mid-range hotel.
